SPARC Broadcast – Open Access: Redefining Impact

This kick-off event for International Open Access Week will be a panel discussion focused on how Article Level Metrics are redefining scholarly impact. Panelists for the event are:
Dr. Stefano Bertuzzi, Executive Director of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB)
Brett Bobley, Chief Information Officer for the National Endowment for the Humanities
Dr. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, Director of Scholarly Communication of the Modern Language Association
Dr. Cameron Neylon, Advocacy Director for the Public Library of Science
Dr. Michael Stebbins, Assistant Director for Biotechnology in the Science Division of the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy
Faculty and interested graduate students are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy the broadcast.

Copyright Criminals Film Screening

Join us for a free screening of Copyright Criminals, a documentary film about the rise of hip-hop music and the legal issues surrounding sampling and copyright. This 53-minute film is a must-see for hip-hop enthusiasts, musicians, and anyone interested in remixing, mashing up or editing sound, video, or images.
Pizza and drinks will be served during a brief intermission.
Free Open Access pens, buttons and mugs will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

Faculty are invited to a reception honoring UC Merced Open Access authors, and to learn more about local implementation of the University of California Open Access Policy.
