When looking for articles on our databases, an easy way to find the different forms the article comes in is through the UC-eLinks button. This will bring up a new web page. From here you can view the article online or order the article or journal through ILL.

eScholarship and Open Access

Academic libraries all over the world are celebrating "Open Access" this week, promoting unfettered access to academic research and publications throughout the world. UC Merced recently joined the Open Access movement along with other UC campuses by participating in a ground-breaking agreement that enables UC-authored articles accepted for publication in most of the 2000+ Springer journals to be published through Springer Open Choice , allowing full and immediate access to all readers.

Consumer Health Information

If you need consumer health information, visit PubMED (MEDLINE) and select "Consumer Health" on the left column to reach MedlinePlus. This source includes information on 800 health topics, a medical encyclopedia, information about drugs and supplements, current news, interactive tutorials and more.

Finding Reviews in JSTOR

September 21, 2009



Visit JSTOR. Find this databases through Research Help > Databases & Articles.
Click on "Advanced Search". Type in the name of the book for which you need reviews. e.g. "outliers in statistical data". Then select Limit to: Review with a check in the box. Click the Search button. In the search results, look for Reviewed work(s): and then the title you needed. Open the PDF link to obtain full text.

New Content in American History in Video

American History in Video now has 47 new titles bringing its collection to a total of 1526 videos. New titles include The Civil War series by Ken Burns. Additional titles are available from California Newsreel. Visit this database of video footage and select "What's New" for more details. You can also browse titles, search, or view playlists created by others.

UC/Springer Open Access Journal Publishing Pilot

March 25, 2009



UC Merced faculty will be interested in the UC/Springer Open Access Journal Publishing Pilot announced in January 2009. This ground-breaking arrangement with Springer provides faculty with the opportunity to publish in selected Springer journals covered by the pilot. Final versions of the articles published during the two-year pilot will be available in the eScholarship Repository beginning in Fall 2009.

Databases: Research Super Tools

The UC Merced Library provides access to some 250 databases. Some of these are free databases (like Google, for example) that anyone can access with or without the Library. Some are proprietary databases (like Web of Science) which the Library licenses at costs that can reach thousands of dollars per year. These databases allow you to find and access information resources, including journal articles, that you cannot otherwise discover.

Connect from Off Campus

UC Merced Library provides thousands of online journals, books, and databases for the use of UC Merced students, faculty, and staff. If you are on campus, connecting to them is as simple as connecting to to UC campus network.
