The VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to access electronic library resources when you are not on campus. Many library databases, e-books, and journal articles are licensed only for UC Merced students, faculty, and staff and can only be used while on campus or when connected to the campus network with the VPN.
Use the active webpage on your right to complete the tutorial.
Downloading the VPN is easy. From the library home page go to:
To install the VPN:
Although the screen may look a little bit different between Operating Systems, the steps to configure the VPN client software are pretty much the same.
Below is a screenshot of the information required to configure the VPN client.
You will need this information only for the initial configuration. Once the VPN is configured you will use your UCMnetID to log in to the VPN.
Depending on your operating system, the VPN will either appear as an icon on your desktop (PC) or as a program in your applications folder (Mac).
To launch the VPN, click on the icon or application. You will be prompted to log in with your UCMnetID (jdoe7) and password (same as your UCM email). Once you are logged in, open a browser. You should be connected to the campus network.
If you are prompted to pay for articles or to log in again, you are probably not connected to the campus network. Refresh your browser and double check that you are connected with the VPN.
Contact the UCM IT Help Desk if you need further assistance with the VPN.
Please enter your name and email address to retrieve a copy of your completed quiz.
You can enter multiple email addresses separated by commas. If you are doing this for a class, you may need to enter your instructor's email address also.
