A Redesigned eScholarship

California Digital Library is pleased to announce the launch of a major redesign of eScholarship, the University of California’s Open Access repository.

Through this redesign, eScholarship offers a strong consortial repository solution containing custom access layers and brand identity for each of our ten UC campuses and 70+ academic journals. The redesign also meets the WCAG 2.0 AA standard for ADA accessibility, scales for mobile and tablet devices, and features a flexible design that allows for multiple content display options and customizable landing pages.

Taylor & Francis Ebooks Get a New Platform

Taylor & Francis is transitioning ebook content from the CRCnetBase platform and its other associated ebook collections to their new Ebook platform. As of October 31st, T&F will be placing permanent redirects from the old content to the new platform. Content to be migrated includes the following platforms:

ElectricalEngineeringnetBASE

ENGnetBASE

ENVIROnetBASE

Overlap access to both platforms is currently provided. The new platform has a minimal design and is keyword search-driven, with the ability to refine results using filters such as subject, publication date, and publisher imprint. The new platform is under development with features such as browse by subject, online reader integration for all titles, branding and additional limit/sort options in the future.

New Release of Reaxys®

Elsevier launched a new release of Reaxys®. According to the Elsevier press release, this release combines a streamlined user interface with search and indexing enhancements powered by machine learning algorithms to ensure maximum discoverability. It also includes more compounds and patent content from Asia.

Some of the new improvements:

* An intuitive user interface with Quick Search options and a drag-and-drop Query Builder interface to help all users quickly search for literature or compound properties using keywords, structure or reaction drawings, and more

* An enhanced literature search 

* Inclusion of Asian-language patents data from China, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.

* Extending the range of searchable content to include Reaxys index terms and compounds from more than 15,000 chemistry-related periodicals

The Melvyl instance is showing a "Library authentication needed" message even if accessing from a valid campus IP address. Please note that the display of the message does not affect the ability to use the Melvyl instance.  Users can still use the Melvyl instance by clicking the ENTER AS GUEST for library materials and free resources; NO LOGIN NEEDED link that displays beneath the “Sign in to Library” button. OCLC has indicated that they are aware of the problem and that their operations team is working on resolving the problem.  

UC Merced Has Access to JAMA

UC Merced has recently subscribed to JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association as well as a number of other JAMA journals through the JAMA Network. Published by the American Medical Association, these journals provide invaluable access to peer-reviewed research, reviews, and editorials covering all aspects of the biomedical sciences.
