Preserving Our Past

About

The UC Merced Library creates broad, digital access to archives and special collections of interest to the region and wider world through saving, preserving, and making available primary source collections that are often at risk of being overlooked, lost, or destroyed. The Library is also home to documenting the university’s history including the development of UC Merced, student life, and faculty contributions.

Acquiring Distinctive Collections

Unique archival & special collections materials often involve an initial cost to acquire. Your gift will support new acquisitions that align with one of the Library’s five collecting areas, especially materials that surface the region’s social, political, or environmental history.

Digitizing Unique Materials

The UC Merced Library is committed to ensuring that any collections acquired do not languish in storage. Rather they are processed, digitized, and made accessible. Your gift will support digitization technology and capacity-building to complete the essential work of collecting, organizing, promoting, and providing access to these valuable resources. Collections will be made broadly available for community members, organizations, researchers, and student scholars.
