The UC Merced Library is committed to providing access to library materials, programs and services for all users. Our staff will make every effort to accommodate requests from library users with disabilities. If your disability is invisible, please identify yourself as having a disability when you seek assistance.
Accessible parking for patrons with disabled placards is available in the Library Lot closest to the Kolligian Library. Please contact Transportation and Parking Services at 209-228-8277 for more information.
The Kolligian Library building has electronic doors, elevators and accessible restrooms. Elevators in the east wing of the building stop going to the ground floor past 6pm. For elevator access after 6pm, please use the elevator in the west wing of the building (by the Students First Center). Contact staff at the Services Desk at 209-228-4444 if further assistance is needed.
The Library is committed to helping individuals find and access relevant resources. All of our staff can assist you in using online catalogs, information resources and library equipment. Wheelchair-accessible public workstations are available on the second floor of the library near the services desk. Please feel free to ask for assistance at the Services Desk on the second floor at any time.
If you find that items are inaccessible, library staff will retrieve them for you. The number of items retrieved per day may be limited due to staffing. Please allow 24 hours for staff to retrieve materials. Whenever possible, please contact the library in advance so we can have materials ready for you in a timely manner.
Patrons may designate another individual as a proxy to borrow materials for them if a temporary or permanent disability prevents coming to the library in person. Arrangements must be made in advance by emailing the library at library@ucmerced.edu.
Books from the HathiTrust Digital Library can be made available as accessible PDFs to patrons with documented print disabilities. The HathiTrust Digital Library contains over 14 million digitized volumes.
For items not available through HathiTrust, print items from our library can be digitized. Please contact the Office of Disability Services at 209-228-6996 for more information and to obtain a referral for HathiTrust access and digitization requests.
Registered UC Merced students are eligible for assistance from the Office of Student Accessibility Services. Their office can provide information about academic support services, eligibility determination and documentation.
