UCOP’s UC Libraries Digital Collection Project is a winner of the 2016 Larry L. Sautter Golden Award for enabling all UC libraries to create, manage, and make accessible to the public hundreds of thousands of digital assets ranging from historical records and maps to photographs and films. Services include a shared digital asset management system that all campus libraries may use, a tool to aggregate and index digital content across collections, and the Calisphere website that allows the public to explore UC’s archival treasures.
The annual award, sponsored by the UC Information Technology Leadership Council, recognizes collaborative innovations in IT that advance the university’s missions of teaching, research, and public service, and encourages collaboration and solution sharing across the UC system.

Denice Sawatzky has been Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Coordinator at UC Merced since 2005. Before coming to UC Merced she worked at UC Riverside and UC Santa Cruz. She brought extensive experience to her position, establishing ILL services at our campus. Our library users have benefited from Denice’s information-finding expertise combined with her a love of sleuthing. Denice announced earlier this year that she was going to retire. Her last day is June 29th just a few weeks short of 29 years working in UC Libraries. We wish Denice the best in her retirement and will miss her many contributions and great sense of humor.

The library is pleased to welcome Instruction Librarian Lindsay Davis to its staff. Lindsay started on June 1st. She comes to UC Merced from Merced College’s Los Banos Campus Library. She has also held roles at the CSU Stanislaus University Library, Stanislaus County Library, and the Library of Congress. She earned a Masters of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University and a BA in history from CSU Stanislaus. As a first generation college student and daughter of an immigrant, she understands how intimidating academic libraries can be for brand-new students. She hopes to help students feel comfortable asking for research assistance and learn research skills that will help them write those term papers and think more critically about information outside the classroom, too. Lindsay’s primary role at UC Merced is teaching research skills in classes, developing instructional materials and tools, and assisting students in research consultations whether in-person or through the Library’s chat service.
