The UC Libraries are completing a two-year trial and extensive assessment of Scopus, a large interdisciplinary abstract and citation database of research literature and selected web sites developed by the publisher Elsevier. The UC Libraries have decided not to acquire Scopus as a UC systemwide purchase for 2011; the trial period ends on December 31, 2010. Collection budget constraints and relatively low usage during the trial period were some of the factors that led to this decision. Despite many good features in Scopus, there are currently other similar high quality resources available that meet the needs of researchers. Scopus users are encouraged to contact the library to learn about alternate resources that are available.
