On June 24, 2011 the legacy version of Melvyl (the online public catalog for UC libraries) was decommissioned to make way for a new version of Melvyl supported by OCLC WorldCat Local. This powerful new interface for Melvyl gives researchers the ability to search over 800 million items from research institutions throughout the world, including many California research libraries such as California State Library, Hastings College of the Law, the California Academy of Sciences, the California Historical Society, the Center for Research Libraries, the Graduate Theological Union, and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This improved connection to the larger research world promises to improve scholarship, and the easy interface supported by WorldCat makes searching easy and intuitive.
