Answer: I find beautiful the intersection between the natural world and the human world. And there’s a tension there but I love that.

David Masumoto is a third generation farmer, growing peaches, nectarines and raisins in California's Central Valley. Masumoto is also a columnist for the Fresno Bee and has earned the Julia Child Cookbook Award in the literary food writing category, the Critics' Choice Award from the San Francisco Review of Books, and a Commonwealth Club of California silver medal.
He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master's degree from the University of California, Davis.
Masumoto will deliver the keynote speech at the School of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19th 2013. In honor of this event, the UC Merced Library is proud to display several of Mr. Masumoto’s numerous books, including Epitaph for a Peach: Four Seasons on My Family Farm (1995), Harvest Son: Planting Roots in American Soil (1998), Four Seasons in Five Senses: Things Worth Savoring (2003), and Wisdom of the Last Farmer: Harvesting Legacies From the Land (2009).
The display is located on the 4th floor of the UC Merced Library, just outside of the McFadden Willis Reading Room. It will be available for viewing April 1-June 3, 2013.
