I've never written a Data Management Plan. How do I get started?
If you've never written a Data Management Plan (DMP), we recommend writing your first plan with DPMTool. It provides DMP templates for most funding agencies and directorates, helpful guidance on what you should include in each section, and the option of inviting a Data Management expert (that's us!) to review your plan.

Discuss your plan with a Data Management expert
If you want to discuss your overall data management strategy, including hardware and software needs, you can schedule a joint consultation with Library Data Services and IT Research Computing.
Research Data Repositories
You should plan to archive your data in an appropriate repository at the conclusion of your project. There are many factors that govern the choice of repository. A few factors to consider are:
- Is there a domain-specific repository that is appropriate for this type of data?
- Does your data contain confidential or personally identifying information?
- How large is your data set?
Come talk to us if you have questions about which repository to use.
