Clarissa Flores is our newest Night/Weekend Services Coordinator. We recently asked her about her background and how her past experiences have helped her prepare for her new role at UC Merced Library.
What is the top item on your bucket list?
"For as long as I can remember, my goal in life was to travel throughout South and Southeast Asia, so that is what is at the top of my bucket list. But, instead of spending two or three weeks abroad, I'd like to spend 2-3 months traveling so I can really get to experience each country's culture and nature."
How have your past experiences prepared you for your new role?
"In my previous role as a swing shift manager, I was responsible for overseeing daily restaurant operations, logging and managing inventory, and coordinating work assignments. While the roles and work environments are different, I am confident that I can use the knowledge and experience I have and become a highly reliable team member of the UC Merced Library team by ensuring that the students and faculty always have the resources and support they need to succeed academically."
What interested you in this position?
"I chose to apply for this position because I have always loved to help others and after learning more about the Library's mission, I knew this was the position fit for me. I also really admire how the UC Merced Library team works hard to ensure that the students and faculty have access to the tools necessary for their academic success, so I am really excited to collaborate with them to meet our goals."
What is one thing that you enjoy about being part of the UC Merced community?
"I know I have been part of the UC Merced community for a short time, but in that short time, the UC Merced Library team has made me feel like I have been a part of this team for years. Everyone has been so helpful and welcoming, and I will work hard to make them proud."
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
"I am a big soccer fan, so on the weekends I enjoy watching my favorite teams play. On occassion, my brother and I will even go watch a game live. Go Quakes!"
