The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) recently released the Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Academic and Research Libraries, a practical guide designed to assist librarians in dealing with the often difficult and confusing copyright issues they face every day. This code of best practices addresses issues such as:
- Supporting teaching and learning with access to library materials via digital technologies
- Creating digital collections of archival and special collections materials
- Maintaining the integrity of works deposited in institutional repositories
- Digitizing to preserve at-risk items
UC Librarians met with Brandon Butler (ARL) and Peter Jaszi (American University, Center for Social Media) on both the UCLA and UC Berkeley campuses earlier this month to discuss the development of the code, specific applications of the code, and implementation of the code going forward. The UCLA meetings were recorded and are now available on YouTube.
