Open Access (OA) Week, October 20-26, celebrates and encourages free, immediate, online access to scholarly research and the right to use and re-use research results. During this week, libraries, universities, and researchers plan events designed to raise awareness of the ways open access to information can benefit society and individuals.

UC is a strong supporter of Open Access. Last summer the Academic Senate passed an Open Access Policy. Faculty at three of the UC campuses have started to deposit publications into eScholarship in order that research can be made freely available to the public. This process is becoming increasingly streamlined and will soon involve automatic harvesting.
Informative FAQs about the UC Open Access Policy are provided by the Office of Scholarly Communications.
