MUSE in Focus: Addressing Gun Violence

UC Merced patrons now have access to Project MUSE’s “MUSE in Focus: Addressing Gun Violence”. Providing free access to more than a dozen journal articles and books focused on understanding and preventing gun violence, the collection was created in hopes of informing policymakers as well as educating researchers and other concerned citizens with evidence-based work on the topic.

Access Alert - Wireless Connection

Beginning Friday, August 9th at 5:30pm through Saturday, August 10th at noon Pacific Time, the Office of Information Technology will upgrade the wireless network in buildings north of Scholar’s Lane Bridge, including the Library. The wireless network will be unavailable during this time frame (wired connection will still be available). ProQuest Congressional Redesign

Beginning July 24th, ProQuest will launch their redesigned ProQuest Congressional interface. This redesign hopes to simplify retrieval of information by students unfamiliar with government content, while preserving the ability to perform complex queries as desired. Databases such as ProQuest Congressional and ProQuest Digital Bills and Resolutions will move to this interface.

Some improvements included in this redesign:

Search results organized by Content Type to guide users to the best results.
A streamlined Advanced Search layout with duplicate entry points to content removed.
Search by Number enhanced with clearer navigation and page organization.
Search results relevance revised to emphasize content types.
Congress in Context featured more prominently on the page to illustrate what was going on during each Congress, including information on House and Senate leadership and partisan composition.

New Resource: Superstar Journals Database

UC Merced patrons can now access the Superstar Journals Database. Containing 7,470 full-text Chinese journals and more than 1,200 core journals, coverage spans from 1949 to the present. A variety of disciplines, including engineering, agronomy, social science, culture, education, philosophy, and medicine, are represented in this collection. Major academic journal coverage within the package focuses on social sciences and humanities, with unique titles in the fields of science and technology rounding it out.
