Course Resources

The UC Merced Library’s Course Resources service allows faculty members to place course-related materials in the library for a two-hour loan or electronically through CatCourses. The Course Resources service includes finding, scanning and posting materials to CatCourses, and making books and print items available for circulation. Faculty members interested in using the Course Resources service can submit an online request.

DNSA on New Platform

On September 16th, the Digital National Security Archive (DNSA) will transition to the ProQuest platform from the Chadwyck-Healey platform.  

If you have a “My Archive” account on the currently platform, your saved searched and materials will not automatically transfer.  Users who have used this functionality will have to re-run searches using DNSA on the new platform.  Currently users can access this DNSA on either platform but as of September 16th, users will be taken directly to the new platform.

HathiTrust currently contains over 11 million volumes, digitized from partnering library collections, including the University of California.

Did you know that it's easy to embed HathiTrust books into your website and courses? You can embed any public domain book into HTML code. Follow the instructions on the HathiTrust website or simply find the book you want and click the "Embed this book" link in the lower left corner of the Full View screen.

The Arabidopsis Information Resource (TAIR)

The Arabidopsis Information Resource (TAIR) maintains a database of genetic and molecular biology data for the model higher plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Data available from TAIR includes the complete genome sequence along with gene structure, gene product information, gene expression, DNA and seed stocks, genome maps, genetic and physical markers, publications, and information about the Arabidopsis research community. Gene product function data is updated weekly from the latest published research literature and community data submissions. TAIR also provides extensive link to other Arabidopsis resources.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context Now Available

Opposing Viewpoints in Context is now available to UC Merced students and faculty. This database covers today's hot social issues, from Offshore Drilling to Climate Change, Health Care to Immigration, and provides multiple perspectives on a topic, allowing students to deal with a wide variety of data for their research, writing assignments, debates, presentations and coursework. The resource includes pro/con essays, topic overviews, primary source documents, court-case reviews, data and statistics, podcasts and articles.

 

Library Provides Access to SCOPUS

The UC Merced Library has recently acquired trial access to SCOPUS, a popular abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature which features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. Content covers research output in the fields of technology, medicine, social sciences, arts, and humanities.

  • Updated daily
  • Indexes 20,000 peer-reviewed journals, 390 trade publications, and 370 book series
  • Includes 5.5 million conference papers
  • 20 million records, including references, going back to 1995
  • 21 million pre-1996 records going back as far as 1823
  • Cross-searches 25.2 million patents

Trial access to SCOPUS ends on December 31, 2015.

Literature Online Moves to ProQuest

Literature Online (LION), a literature database, has moved to the ProQuest platform. You will still be able to access the old platform on Chadwyck-Healey through March 31, 2014.

Of particular note is that My Archive accounts on Literature Online will not be migrated. If you or your researchers have a My Archive account, you will need to extract all data and transfer it to a new account in the new version of the database.

ProQuest has prepared instructional materials about the new platform, and has scheduled a series of training sessions as well.

UC Library Reprints Service

The UC campus libraries are happy to announce the re-launch of the University of California Library Reprints website.  Through our partnerships with the Internet Archive and Google, the UC Libraries have digitized hundreds of thousands of public domain books from our collections.  Many of these books are now available for purchase in reprinted editions, or to download for free. Most titles are also discoverable through Melvyl and HathiTrust. For further information, see this CDLINFO article.
