Simplicity/Complexity: Digital Works by Ryan Hoover

The UC Merced Library is pleased to present our first exclusively digital exhibit – “Simplicity/Complexity: Digital Works by Ryan Hoover.”

In partnership with SSHA faculty member Kenichi Yoshida (Global Arts Studies Program), this exhibit features the work of video artist Ryan Hoover. Hoover's  "Simplicity/Complexity" series is largely inspired by the motion studies of 19th century photographer Eadwaerd Muybridge.

"Hoover discovers within Muybridge's visual field a blind passage that lead to the archaic depth of movement's memory that begins outside of humanity. From these archival images he sculpts the preshistory of motility, a world of simple molecular movements before the complexity of anthropomorphic kinetics."-Kenichi Yoshida

Please join us in KL 208 (UC Merced Library, 2nd floor, West Wing) on Tuesday, October 29th at 5pm for a reception to celebrate this exhibit. Thom Anderson’s 1974 documentary “Eadweard Muybridge” and Ryan Hoover’s “Simplicity/Complexity” will be screened.

For additional information on the Global Arts Studies Program and the exhibit, contact Ken Yoshida.
