Access to ProQuest Databases January 6, 2016 On Saturday, January 16th, ProQuest will be upgrading its systems infrastructure to improve performance, security, and overall reliability of its databases products. The maintenance window is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM Pacific Time and will last for eight (8) hours. This will impact some databases on the ProQuest platform such as RefWorks and ProQuest Congressional. |

Luminos Open Access Model for Book Publishing December 14, 2015 The University of California Press recently announced its first five scholarly monographs published through Luminos -- its Open Access publishing program for books. This new digital publishing program operates on a model of shared financial support with titles funded through UC Press contributions, funds from Luminos Member Libraries, and a title publication fee provided by authors. Excess revenues are used to build a waiver fund for use by future authors. Luminos provides authors the opportunity to increase their readership, especially by global audiences, due to the open access designation. |

Digitization of Faculty Member’s Costume Designs December 7, 2015 The UC Merced Library is involved in an ongoing project to digitize approximately 2,000 illustrations of costume designs by School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts Professor Dunya Ramicova. |

ScienceDirect to cease support of Internet Explorer 8 December 3, 2015 Following Microsoft’s directive to focus support on newer, officially-supported IE browser versions, ScienceDirect will no longer support Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) as of January 1, 2016. ScienceDirect encourages users to update to more recent versions of IE, Chrome or Firefox browsers for optimal ScienceDirect access. |

Access to the Arts & Sciences XIV Collection Through JSTOR November 30, 2015 Through the California Digital Library, a number of UC campuses including UC Merced now have access to the Arts & Sciences XIV Collection from JSTOR. This collection adds more than 140 journals devoted to the study of culture and communication to the platform. Drawn primarily from the fields of Archaeology, Literature, Communications Studies, Political Science, and Education, these journals span 17 countries, 23 disciplines, and date back to 1839. New SAGE Knowledge platform November 6, 2015 As of November 4th, SAGE Knowledge migrated to its new platform. Incorporating customer and user feedback, the new platform hosts videos alongside traditional book and reference content and works equally well on desktop, tablet and mobile views. The new platform also offers improved discoverability of content and more intuitive navigation. |

Reveal Digital's Independent Voices collection October 26, 2015 California Digital Library has recently licensed 800 titles offered by Reveal Digital from their Independent Voices collection. This collection is a cooperative effort by libraries across the country to fund the digitization of alternative press content from their special collections. The newspapers and journals represent a wide spectrum of groups from the 1960s through 1980s and include feminist journals (like Bread & Roses), counterculture newspapers (like Berkeley Tribe), LGBT publications, and small literary presses. |

UC Publication Management System – Locates Faculty Publications October 16, 2015 With the rollout of the UC Publication Management System October 15th, faculty will begin to receive email alerts identifying publications they authored. Once verifying and claiming a publication, faculty will be prompted to upload the associated file or provide a link. The goal is to increase visibility of faculty research through a convenient process in support of the UC Academic Senate Open Access Policy passed in July 2013. |

The Art of Costume Design: The Work of Dunya Ramicova October 16, 2015 An exhibit of costume designs by Dunya Ramicova, UC Merced faculty, will be on display at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center from October 16 - December 7, 2015. Since 2014, the Library has been digitizing, archiving, and preserving Dunya Ramicova’s costume designs. With this exhibit, the UC Merced Library is pleased to announce the launch of the digital collection, now available online in Calisphere. When completed, the collection will stand as one of the very few digital collections [oeuvres] of costume designs by a single creator anywhere. |

Professor’s Costume Designs Put on Display October 12, 2015 Renderings of costume designs by UC Merced Professor Dunya Ramicova are now available as digital images through Calisphere. To date, more than 2,000 images are available for viewing. Ramicova is an Emmy Award-winning costume designer and her work includes designs from more than 150 productions that range from theater to film. |
