Announcing CNP eBooks June 22, 2017 All campuses except UCSF have agreed to participate in a Demand-Driven Acquisitions eBook project for access to the CNP eBooks. This project with the China National Publications Import & Export Corporation (CNPIEC) is a one-year pilot for ebook access focused on subjects in the social sciences and humanities including history, political science, sociology, anthology, literature, philosophy, religion, classics, media studies and others. Titles have been chosen from more than 300 regular, university and society publishing houses with new titles added to Melvyl every two months. |

Taylor & Francis Open Access Publishing for UC Authors May 24, 2017 The California Digital Library has brokered a deal with Taylor & Francis via our license agreement for 2016 through 2018 granting up to a 75% discount on gold open access article publishing charges (APCs) for all UC authors. This discount applies to all articles published in Taylor & Francis Open Journals and Open Select Journals through the first 400 articles published per annum. After the limit is reached for UC as a whole, a 50% discount will be applied for the remainder of that year to all articles submitted. |

UCM Librarians Recognized in LIRT Top 20 for 2016 May 4, 2017 The American Library Association’s Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) has selected an article authored by Sara Davidson Squibb, UC Merced Library’s Head of Research & Learning Services and Susan Mikkelson, former UC Merced Instruction & Scholarly Communications Librarian and current Librarian of Merced High as one of the Top 20 Library Instruction Articles for 2016. Published in the March edition of College & Research Libraries, “Assessing the Value of Course-Embedded Information Literacy on Student Learning and Achievement” reviewed the impact of a curriculum developed by UC Merced librarians and Writing faculty that integrated information literacy into introductory composition courses to improve academic performance. KL 360 & 397 Remodeled Author: Breanna Wright April 30, 2017 Over spring recess the two Kolligian Library third floor conference rooms received a fresh new look and upgraded technology. Each room now contains a large screen, white board, podium and updated seating arrangements. Room 397 features moveable furniture that provides 3 different room configurations. The room updates were supported by the UC Merced Library's Kolligian-Kashian endowment funds. Use the online Campus Reservation System (CRS) to reserve aa room up to six months in advance. Twenty-four hours advance booking is required. Reservations are limited to one reservation per week for use up to four hours. |

Library Collaborates with CARE Office for Sexual Assault Awareness Month Book Display April 30, 2017 The month of April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and in collaboration with the CARE office the Library has dedicated its 2nd floor book display to help educate and bring awareness to issues surrounding sexual assault. As early as the late 1970s, "women...held protests against the violence they encountered as they walked the streets at night; they called them "Take Back the Night Marches.' Over time, sexual assault awareness activities grew to include the issues of sexual violence against men and men's roles in ending sexual violence. On April 1, 2001, the U.S. first observed Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) nationally. Since then, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center promotes national unity for SAAM activities. This year, the SAAM campaign is Engaging New Voices, [hoping] to help new voices begin to talk about preventing sexual assault." - www.nsvrc.org
