GIS Center Location

The GIS Center is moving from SSM 209 to KL 330 in the Kolligian Library (expected to open January 21, 2025). Our new lab accommodates dedicated workstations for researhcers and drop-in support for geospatial analysis, software techncial support and data management.

Computing Hardware

The computing hardware in the GIS Center has eight Alienware workstations running:

  • Intel® Core™ i7-7700K Processor (4-Cores, 8MB Cache, Turbo Boost 2.0, Overclocked up to 4.4GHz),
  • Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti with 12GB GDDR5X
  • 64GB (4x16G) 2400MHz DDR4 Memory and 256GB M.2 PCIe SSD (Boot) 
  • 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s of hard drive storage.
  • Workstations are equipped with two 17” monitors or one 35” curved display for superior visualization. 

Software

GIS software including ArcGIS and QGIS are installed on all machines with regular updates. Other programs including R and Microsoft Office are installed for our users. The GIS lab also has a 55" Samsung Smart Tablet / Whiteboard to use for interactive mapping demonstrations and group consultations.
