Collection Highlight - May 2019 Author: Kelsey Raidt May 13, 2019 In honor of the graduating class of 2019, we’d like to take a moment to highlight an item from our University of California Cooperative Extension, Fresno collection. This item is part of a 1950s era handout for 4-H advisors. It contains several recreational games for 4-H students to play, including this example of a homemade board and dice game called “School Days.” We hope our Bobcats finish their studies without encountering any of the challenges faced by the players of this 4-H game! UC Enters Open Access Agreement with Cambridge University Press April 10, 2019 The University of California and Cambridge University Press have entered into a transformative agreement that will advance the global shift toward an open access future for research. The agreement is designed to maintain UC’s access to Cambridge’s journals, while also supporting open access publishing for UC authors. The partnership is UC’s first open access agreement with a major publisher and Cambridge’s first such deal in the Americas. |

Library Hosts Successful Software Carpentry Workshop Author: Kathleen Coburn April 1, 2019 The UC Merced Library organized a two-day Software Carpentry workshop during Spring Break that covered Unix, Git, and Python. The workshop was given by two excellent instructors, Kate Barron (Data Services Librarian at San Jose State University's Martin Luther King, Jr. Library) and Avishek Kumar (Research/Data Scientist at the University of Chicago's Center for Data Science and Public Policy).
