Springer Open Access Pilot Ends

March 21, 2011



The UC-Springer Open Access Pilot has ended effective March 1st, 2011. During the two-year pilot negotiated between the California Digital Library (CDL) and Springer, UC-authored articles accepted for publication in 2009 and 2010 in most of the 2,000+ Springer journals were published as open access under Springer’s Open Choice program. Unfortunately, Springer has decided to discontinue this arrangement.

Scopus Database trial ends December 31, 2010

The UC Libraries are completing a two-year trial and extensive assessment of Scopus, a large interdisciplinary abstract and citation database of research literature and selected web sites developed by the publisher Elsevier. The UC Libraries have decided not to acquire Scopus as a UC systemwide purchase for 2011; the trial period ends on December 31, 2010.

Check out our images databases!

Have you ever had trouble finding images for a power point presentation? Use our images databases to help spice up your presentation. On our homepage you can find our images databases by scrolling over the "Doing Research" tab and clicking on the "Databases" link. Once on the Databases page, select "by format" from the "find databases" section.

Congressional Hearings

Looking up Congressional Hearings is a bit tricky. Here are some tips. You can look up Congressional Hearings using Lexis-Nexis Congressional: http://web.lexis-nexis.com/congcomp. In Lexis-Nexis t's is helpful to use the Advanced Search feature and to use limits.

New Quick Search Bar

If you've been on the library homepage recently, you may have noticed that there is a new Quick Search Bar. The new default search looks through "All UC Libraries" instead of the "UC Merced Library" (now the 2nd tab option).

Digitizing Resources

Curious about SCR? Here is what you need to know. SCR stands for Supplemental Course Resources. This is an excellent tool for instructors to digitize their resources and make them available for students on UCMCROPS or any other network. Instructors only need to submit this form to the second floor Services Desk of the Library, with attached course syllabus and the item to be digitized, and then wait until they are posted on CROPS.
