Web of Science has New Look and Features July 19, 2011 Web of Science users will see a new interface and enjoy many great new search features the next time they log in to the database. On July 17th, the new Web of Science became the primary platform for this popular search tool. |

OCLC WorldCat Local Melvyl Formally Adopted July 1, 2011 On June 24, 2011 the legacy version of Melvyl (the online public catalog for UC libraries) was decommissioned to make way for a new version of Melvyl supported by OCLC WorldCat Local. This improved connection to the larger research world promises to improve scholarship, and the easy interface supported by WorldCat makes searching easy and intuitive. |

Legacy Melvyl to be Decommissioned June 16, 2011 Next Generation Melvyl Pilot will soon become UC’s official Melvyl discovery and access service. On June 24th, the pilot will be renamed "Melvyl" and will replace the older legacy version of UC's online catalog. |

Springer Open Access Pilot Ends March 21, 2011 The UC-Springer Open Access Pilot has ended effective March 1st, 2011. During the two-year pilot negotiated between the California Digital Library (CDL) and Springer, UC-authored articles accepted for publication in 2009 and 2010 in most of the 2,000+ Springer journals were published as open access under Springer’s Open Choice program. Unfortunately, Springer has decided to discontinue this arrangement. |

Scopus Database trial ends December 31, 2010 November 16, 2010 The UC Libraries are completing a two-year trial and extensive assessment of Scopus, a large interdisciplinary abstract and citation database of research literature and selected web sites developed by the publisher Elsevier. The UC Libraries have decided not to acquire Scopus as a UC systemwide purchase for 2011; the trial period ends on December 31, 2010. |
